Looking for an ASUS Eee PC with Windows XP, but I can't really seem to find anywhere decent to buy one. I'm in Britain... can I just go into PC World or the like, and pick one up? The 4G model would be fine for me.

You can always load XP on the Linux version (which apparently has some hardware advantages):

Here's some various methods on how to load up XP on the Linux Version:

The Eee has a weak 900MHz Celeron, small HDD (either 2, 4 or 8GB), no CD/DVD drive, tiny keyboard & low resolution display, to name just a few of it's deficiencies. In it's factory configured state with Linux & the included software, there's only 1.3GB of freespace left (on the 4GB version). If the drive was wiped & XP installed along with all the updates & comparable programs, there'd be even less space left. Although it's tiny & very portable, you'd have to drag along external storage devices (thumbdrives, SD card, ext HDD, etc) & if needed, an external CD/DVD drive.

Considering the cost, you'd be better off with a cheap laptop. But if you want something with very limited useability, this is the machine for you!

If you check the link below, it states, "In the UK, the ASUS Eee PC is also distributed as the RM Asus Minibook by RM"

Granted. But given an nLite install and the ability to run a complete set of apps from a 512MB USB flash drive (i.e. PortableApps.com), a 4G would still make a quite usable system and still have around 3gigs worth of space left on the "hard-drive" (card). 32GB USB flash is selling in the low $100's (and I'd still consider any USB flash drive over 1GB "big") A USB DVD/CD would compensate for the lack of internals (as pointed out), and an external-monitor port is there as well for those who can't bear the eyestrain. I wouldn't think a gamer or power-user would even attempt an XP install, and most others wouldn't either without knowing that a few hacks would be necessary and a few shortcomings expected. Given the low price and light-weight, I'm willing to sacrifice a great deal of performance if it does the job needed.
