Hi all,

I have a problem with my Asus eeePC 2G surf, whereby when I boot up, I don't even get to the welcome screen but just get a blue screen (like a default background, not a crash) and a standard cursor in the middle, and nothing else happens. I can't open task manager or use windows shortcuts etc.

However, I CAN boot up in safe mode. Then running scan disk in repair mode scheduled for boot and restarting will allow it to boot correctly. However next time, exactly the same problem occurs and the fix must be performed again.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening, or how I can fix it? Scanning the disk before booting windows seems to fix the problem temporarily...

mmm I'd be seriously concerned about state of HD...

Perhaps go the website for the HD (hard drive) and download its etc of utilities to test your HD - fully!.

I'd also ensure "all" my files - letters, pics, music etc. are copied off the system entirely - and copies are up-to-date; usually to optical-media and/or another external HD; and verify the copies are truly acessible on at least one other working system...

This in-case the your current HD is on its way out...

Less likely - but not completely out in left field... RAM may be an issue... If you have two or more sticks installed - reduce to a single stick (min = 128Meg) and test system with each in turn...
