I upgraded the bios on my asus a7n8x mobo from version 1005 to 1007. After this it failed to recognize my CPU properly(listing it as an athlon XP 1100 CPU). I was going to restart to set the FSB clock properly then the comp failed to post.

I removed the CMOS battery and cleared that; then I configured the Bios properly. Now the comp posts & boots up(yay!) But it wont detect the cd roms :(. I downgraded to bios version 1003 1005 & 1006 with no luck.(And I cleared the cmos again) What should I do? I've sent a message to ASUS but I've seen lots of good help from these forums, so I'm asking here too.

Thanks Guys for any help

Hehe, I guess after I removed the cmos battery i knocked the ide connector to the motherboard loose :) Because when I was reseating the ide cables to the cd's it just slipped off. SO I plugged that in good and voila! All done.

Next time I'll try to have an actual problem ;)

I have a similar problem. I tried to flash from 1001.E to 1007 and my machine locked up.
After resetting the CMOS I was able to enter safe mode and flash back, but the system refuses to complete the boot process now. The POST does recognize the drives, but it refuses to access them. I get as far as DPMI pool setup and it crashes there now consistently, even after CMOS restart.

What do I do?

Your eprom (bios chip on your MB, is not compatible with the 1007 flash. You need a new eprom, which you can obtain at the following link. They will send you a newly flashed 1007 eprom for about $18. I just did it and now I have the latest, works fine. Be careful changing the chip...use jewelers screwdrivers at each corner and pry straight up...do not "rock" out of the socket. Reinsert new one with thumb pressure, again, straight down. Watch for static of course. It is also essential to remove all power and peripherals before doing this. I even recomment removing the RTC battery and the cards...you want the MB with no voltage from anything.

Here is the link.
