I have the same Camera - it should assign the Drive letter itself - you don't have to do anything

Are you plugging the Camera into the USB Port and then turning the Camera on ?

As Lesley says, it should assign a drive automatically, e.g., E if that's your next free drive. It will not do it permanently; the camera has to be connected to the computer.

That drive may not be activated. If you don't have TweakUI, download it, and go to My Computer, Drives, and be sure the drive your camera wants is checked.

" XP puts it under Imaging Devices" - where - in Device Manager ? - are you sure that's not your Scanner there?

When you plug the Camera in and turn it on - it should show as the last Drive of the series in My Computer - after your CD-Rom Drive ?

What Software do you have - Zoom Browser ?

you don't understand. - i am havin the same problem.

WE WANT our Camera to be labelled as a DRIVE LETTER and not only put in "Scanners and Cameras" section of My Computer.

We want it to be like f: or Z: or anything that we can access from the Run Command.

An no it does not assign it a drive letter automatically.

The reason I am asking this is because I need to use a recovery software of my Flashcard because a friend accidentially formatted it. I NEED THIS PICTURES ASAP..

I have the software - i just need my camera to be able to access thru Drive Letter.

PLEASE HELP! I've tried everything.. even tried to map a network drive to \\.\usbport0

So - when you plug in the Camera and turn it on - are you saying that in My Computer it does not show up as a Drive as long as the Camera is plugged in and is on?

Normally - once you turn it off and unplug it then the Drive disappears again

Similarly with the Flash Card - without the Camera - if the Card Reader is plugged in then you should see a Drive in My Computer and it goes again when you unplug the Card Reader

If this is not happening for you then I don't know

Anyone ??

" WE WANT our Camera to be labelled as a DRIVE LETTER and not only put in "Scanners and Cameras" section of My Computer. "

You seem to be talking about the Control Panel - My Computer does not have any Scanners and Cameras - My Computer shows all the Drives - Hard and Removable

The Camera should show up in My Computer as the last Drive after your CD Drive -assuming you have the Camera or a Card Reader plugged in

Mine shows as a G Drive - until I unplug the Camera\Reader

Mine does not do that, It puts it in my computer as a drive you can access but sticks it under a tile called "imaging devices" and DOES NOT give it a drive letter. I have tried all drive letters and there a letters available it just doesn't assign one. If I go to a directory tree of my computer the camera is there as "canonA40#3" but it doesn't have a drive letter and therefore i can't access it with recovery software. Yes the software installed is ZoomBrowser. and NO it doesn't show up as a removable drive. I think it might have something to do with when you run the scanners and camera wizard in XP, I think it sets it as this stupid "imaging Device" removing and reinstalling doesn't work either

HELP!

OK - I understand - yours is obviously behaving differntly from mine

" I think it might have something to do with when you run the scanners and camera wizard in XP, I think it sets it as this stupid "imaging Device" "

Yes - you may well be right - I honestly can't remember what I did when I did it all for the first time but I certainly have nothing to do with any Wizards now!

Sorry I can't help

Hey!

Guys, I have exactly the same problem with my Canon IXUS 400... I have 256 MB Compact Flash card and I want to recover (unerase) some pictures... but I can't. There is no software, that can read from Imaging Devices... all of them need to have a drive letter (like G:) but there is no drive letter assigned for my camera when I plug in and turn it on.
I think this is only subject with the exactly this problem on the internet. I can't find any other anywhere.

So, if somebody knows how to fix this, let us now!

The only thing i can think of is does anyone here have windows 98 machine or a dual boot system to try it on 98 and see if it works there? Also those who don't have this problem can you tell us the exact order you installed it in?

I do remember that - according to the Manual - the Drivers and Software have to be Installed before the Camera is plugged in for the first time

I did that - then - when I plugged in the Camera - there was a 'ping' and it was assigned its Drive Letter - appearing like a CD Drive after the normal CD-RW Drive

There was nothing about 'Imaging Devices' in My Computer

I think a Wizard came up asking which Software to use - chose Zoom Browser

Thereafter - I plugged the Camera in - opened Zoom Browser and the G Drive appears in there - ready to load the Photos

Subsequently - am now using a Card Reader - I just plug it in instead of the Camera

The extra Camera Drive is not permanent - it disappers when the Camera or Card Redeer is unplugged

XP Home+SP1

Belkin USB Powered Hub into USB (1.0) Port - Hub shouldn't make any difference

Camera or Card Reader plugs into Hub

Canon PowerShot A70 - previously had A40 -worked the same way

Lead Data Card Reader

As stated above - originally started off with just the Camera - it assigns the Drive letter when you plug it in

Later got the Card Reader - it assigns the Drive Letter in the same way

I really don't know much about all this - except that it works!

Did you Install the Drivers before plugging in your Camera for the first time?
