Assign Drive letter digital Camera

When I hook up my canon A40 Digital camera it loads under cameras and scanners but doesn't get a drive letter. I need to recover files from the flash card but can't use easy recovery on it because it doesnt have a drive letter. I tried going into my computer and manage but it doesnt show up as a removable drive or permanent drive so i cannot assign it a letter. Any help on assigning a drive letter or recovering these images would be great

If you don't have TweakUI, a MS program, download it, and go to My Computer, Drives. Be sure the drive your camera is trying to activate is checked.

On some models of HP cameras, there is a setting on the camera that changes from "Digital Camera" or "Disk Drive". When I first set up the camera, the setting was on "Digital Camera", I didn't see a disk drive letter for it. This setting is used for the HP camera software. I changed the setting to "Disk Drive" and it showed up as a drive letter. The setting is on camera itself.
