I'm still wondering if anyone knows a solution or software that allows the batch thumbnail view for everything inside a specific address path.

The solution provided by OnTheHill forces all folders to be thumbnails, but it doesnt make every folder and file inside that thumbnails as well, which is what I want. It seems anytime in XP that I rename a folder, the images inside that folder turn back into a list view. Which is VERY aggravating when I need to reference back to that folder later on and I have to change its view every time.

Any help is appreciated,
Nick

I just tried changing my settings to thumbnails and applying to all folders and all are thumbnails including all subfolders.

One thing that could be different is I use windows classic folders under tools> folder options.

And once you do that, all the folders up a directory path from the one you are in maintain their specific views, ie) they don't all become thumbnail view, correct?

They all DO become thumbnail view. Untick remember each folders view settings.

Let me recap how to change the settings. First off your need to change settings using both the View and the Tools buttons. From within the View button choose thumbnails. Then from within the Tools button select folder options> view> untick Remember each folder’s view settings> Apply to All folders> Yes> OK.

Hill that does work, but it has the unwanted effect of making all the higher directories as a thumbnail view as well. Then if I want to change those higher directories to a list view I do so, but then it changes everything in other folders to a list view as well. It makes it become all or nothing. I still want folders to remember their settings but I want the option of 'apply to all subfolders' when I change the view of whatever folder that I'm in, without changing the higher directory.

There has got to be a way to achieve this by subverting xp's file/folder implimentation via some sort of simple batch executable or ui management software that does this.

This never gotta happen with Windows XP due to its tightly-knitted built-in files & folders management hierarchy. Go ahead and try it and you will wonder why your Windows ceased to work.

I guess I have misunderstood what you are trying to accomplish. I personally hate thumbnail view so never use it.

Well I only use thumbnail view because as a graphic designer its essential to see previews of all my photos and images in order to efficiently sort through them.

Hill, if you reference to my first post you will see it points to a thread where I asked this before, and I believe you understood what I was trying to accomplish because you mentioned "make all subfolders from a blanket setting." which is exactly what I'm getting at.

I know I did respond before. I follow four forums here and didn't really go over the original thread carefully.

I am still not 100% sure what you are hoping to accomplish. Do you want thumbnails only in the subfolders but details for the main folders?

I want thumbnails for everything in the specific directory path, ie) C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Pictures\advancedwork\*\..

So everthing within the (*) path and subfolders is thumnailed, everything preceding that maintains their settings. Being able to 'set' the path like this allows me to 'reset' everything to thumnails, because from time to time I may rename one the folders within that path and what ends up happening is every file/folder in that path gets reset to a 'list' view.
