Hey Recently some of my applications wont open. I click the EXE files and nothing happens. There are no errors or messages, the application just doesnt start. I've run 3 different virus checks and found none. Also tried the exefix registry fix-didn't work. It is usually newly installed programs which don't start. Just upgraded MSN Messenger to newer version and now that refuses to start. Although if i set it to start automatically when windows starts it works! Also recently not all my installed programs show up on the control panel add/remove programs list-maybe this is something to do with it?!

You may have a virus or trojan or worm or adware or some other sort of malware.
Run an AV scan, and download AdAware and Spybot, install them, update them, and run. Delete anything that looks suspicious. Some advise deleting everything because it's all reversible. Also get Spyblaster which keeps a list of bad stuff on your computer and blocks them from being installed (theoretically). Be sure your independent (not MS’s) firewall is enabled.

I've run both Adaware and Spybot, removed all spyware and restarted my PC but the problem remains! I've run AVG and Trendmicro online scan as well as a Trojan and Worm checker-no virus. I've checked registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command as another article told me-no problems there. Reinstalled MSN-still cannot make the exe file function. I'm really stumped here!
