First make sure your PC is not infected with Virus, Worms, Spyware befor considering anything else.

Since you could now access the Internet, First, run one or both of these online Antivirus scanners
1. HouseCall Scan Now

Or

2. Panda ActiveScan

Next run spyware removers:

Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06
SpyBot Search & Destroy
M$ Antispyware Beta
M

It is possible that the virus ran whenever you ran an executeable file and now the virus is gone. Here is a link to the windows XP exe fix:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/exefix.reg

Save it to your desktop and right click on it and select merge.

I am glad the diagnosis and treament were successfully done for the present problem.

It is MOST IMPORTANT that Eugene69 installs a VERY GOOD Antivirus and Antispyware Progarm, keep them updated with the latest Virus definitions on a REGULAR BASIS, use 'safe computing practice' to prevent such problems in the future.

I have used the following with no problems:

Norton Internet Security 2005.

This has both Antivirus, Antispyware and Firewall. Usual subscription is for one year. At the end of that you must buy it again often at a concession price. You need to update it regularly and even check at Symatec Technical Support site for new downloads to make sure all are up to date.

I have used AVG Antivirus. They used to be Free. Now they are cahrging and it is Good. They have got a Pro version with Firewall recently relaesed. I haver not tested it yet.

Pand I have Tested. I had some problems with conflict with some programs (Norton also had such problems in the past but later versions 2003-2005, have been running good)

I don't like McAfee Antivirus. It has messed up my PC so much in the past I am already prejudiced against it; so Don't take my opinion alone; McAfee AVP is comparable to Aohell(AOL)ISP.

Please run MS Antispyware as a "Gate keeper" in your System Tray to stop any spyware trying to eneter. I also have both SpyBot and Adaware to do frequent health checks:-)
