Apple iTune behaves differently on Win7 & XP

Specs: Windows XP, 2Gb
Just bought a iPad 2 and trying to move/load a film onto it. I have two laptops, One with Windows XP Professional and one with Windows 7 Home Premium. Both laptops got iTune 10 ( loaded. Now, the same converted film file (.MP4) loads and sync very nicely on the Windows 7 but gives “was not copied ….. because it cannot be played on this ipad” on the Windows XP laptop. Both Windows are on their latest updates.
I understand that XP is not supported already, but was wondering why the iTune software behaves differently on those Operation Systems.
Can somebody this of a reason?
Thank you

As you said, iTunes 10 is not compatible with Windows XP, but it is compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later.
