anyone know what causes it? it comes up when i turn on aol instant messanger and when I play civilization 3
I read the other post on ehre about it and tried to fix it but it still doesnt work... im thinkin about wiping my hard drive and startin everything over
Appcompat.txt is an error file generated by the compatibility mode of Windows XP when a program crashes unexpectedly. XP then asks if you'd like to send the error to Microsoft, but if you click on the link that lets you look at the details it will indicate a path where the appcompat.txt file is.

david: the first thing to do is disable error reporting: click Start, Run. type: msconfig the System Configuration Utility opens. click the Services tab. clear the "Error Reporting Service" check box, and then click OK. Restart to reboot your system.
