I have a couple questions.

First...I did the updates from microsoft and when i went into installation history I noticed that the update for Windows XP (express) are as follows: one failed and the other one is still in progress (since 9/11). Can I safely delete (from add/remove) the SP1 file? And if I can do that, what will happen? will I get the option to re d/l the file again? If I do, I dont know if I want to (lol).

Second: Since the updates I am having problems with AOL 7.0. I can sign on but do not have access to the internet or my buddy list and received the following message

AOL has detected an error with your connection to the internet. please sign off, restart and sign on again. I have done that several times.

I have a cable modem. I have uninstalled the AOL adapter for 7.0 and followed the instructions they said to do, and it still doesn't work.

I have no problems what so ever using AOL 6.0 - i have access to the internet and to my buddy list.

Can anyone possible help me :)

Thank you in advance,
Nanette

close aol, go to explorer, find the aol programme folder, go into it and into the file called backup, you will find a file called main.idx, copy this and replace the main.idx file in the aol programme folder that isnt under backup, there should be two one active, one inactive (in the backup folder). If this fails then it is the known issue that aol have when you have no internet access and no buudy list. They do not know how to solve it so they blame the pc you are using. The only way i know is too completely uninstall both aols and run a registry cleaner, clean all remnants of aol, then clean reinstall aol 7.

Hello, this is what you do:

First: when you restore the file you will loose your prefrences in the program. You will need to reajust them to your taste.

Second:
1. You go into the C:\ (if that is your hardrive)

C:\Amercia Online\Backup\Main.idx (If installed their)
C:\Program Files\America Online\Main.idx (if you used the default )

2. You highlight that file and click on copy and paste it into the IDX folder also located in America Online folder.
your done!
IMPORTANT:
Do not move the backup idx file from backup folder. Becuase if the corruption should occur again you will not be able to repair it again. So always keep a copy of that file in backup.

Sorry guys must be tired, other forums let you correct mistakes not here. "IDX" is supposed to be the "idb" without the ("")folder

Thanx for the help!!!

I do not have a main.idx file in back up in either of the AOL folders. Just a main folder. Am I suppose to have main.idx? If I am what do I need to do to get it in there?

All this started when i d/l that dumb update from Microsoft. Before the d/l 7.0 was working fine.
