I'm asking this question in hopes that someone might have the answer. I'm not here to debate rather or NOT AOL IM is allowed at work (because if it were up to me, which its NOT, we would not have it). So now my question...
Does anyone know of a way (if possible) to get the chat history from a computer that has AOL IM installed? I know this can be done with other messenger programs, but how about AOL?
I'm the admin and someone has been up to no good and the history would help me greatly. so if anyone knows i would appriciate it. in the mean time i've been searching for the answer myself, but you guys have always been great to me in the past and this would save me a lot of time.
Thanks

If the user had chose NOT to log or auto archive IM conversations, you are not going to get anything. However you can get a keylogger or another similar monitoring program (after the fact) and start watching the user.
If that individual is actually 'daft' enough to log his IM conversations, he probably shouldn't be working at your place of employment to begin with.

Your best bet would be a keylogger. I'de recomend hardware however due to them coming in very handy and not requiring access to the machine. You obviously have access this time but next time might be diffent. Not to mention some keylogger apps dont even work with some computers. (sometimes it records keydata pressed in a strange order then shifts everything)

Well yet again you guys helped me out! It’s not turned on by default so I’m SOL. That really bites because I could have used this person’s chat history.
Just another reason (what this person did) to get these instant messengers off my computers. People use them more for wasting time then actually working. Oh well. Thanks again everyone!
