I can connect to AOL just fine, I can hear my modem dialing up. But when I go to connect to a different ISP (I've tried 2 different ones), I get the Error 692. I also have tried connecting using Hyperterminal and that also detects my modem. I'm extremally frustrated. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

-The modem is turned off or malfunctioning.
-If you have an external modem, the serial cable is incorrectly wired.
-If you have an external modem, the serial cable is not securely connected or has open connections.
-The serial port or multiport adapter on the RAS server or client is malfunctioning.
-The handshaking options for the modem are incorrectly configured.
-The modem is unsupported, or the chosen emulation may be incorrect.
-The modem .inf files become corrupted or the modem driver becomes corrupted

Hehe...everyone sends me to that...none of that is the case. I can connect to aol fine. Modem diagnostic is fine. Anybody else with any idea of why aol would connect but no other connections read the modem?

Yep, AOL overwrites the Windows DUN (Dial Up Networking) software with its own.
The AOL version is only compatible with AOL.
Sounds a bit like AOL doing to Microsoft users what Microsoft does to us every day don't it.
