Hi, I have two computers with AOL 8.0 Broadband installed on them. After about 10 minutes of being idle and going back to use it I get a message that the page cannot be displayed - Action Cancelled. I have re-installed IE6.0 upgraded to IE6.0 SP1 on both machines. I can ping an ip address in a dos prompt and also a web site, but cant view these pages. If I reboot then everything is ok until the aol connection is idle. Help please!!!
Regards
Stewart

Sorry, it seems to be one of MANY ongoing problems with Aol broadband, do yourself a favour and change provider if possible.

*sigh* Here we go again with this age old debate. Once again the dragon has been awoken.
Look, everyone knows AOL had problems in the past with dialup connections, etc. Many of those problems have been more than solved by adding new lines, equipment, and the introduction of broadband into urban areas.
With that said... there are a couple things that still have not been perfected -- but they are minor things. AOL's browser has up until AOL 8.0 Plus and AOL 9.0 (upcomming) not been compatible with most forums and other websites requiring more advanced script and code interpreting. The fact, however, remains that AOL is still by far the best ONLINE service provider out there. MSN tries, but continues to have even more problems than AOL used to have...and double the complaints in it's customer base. I say ONLINE providers because there is still nothing better than good ol' Internet Service providers and Broadband providers. AOL For Broadband is actually RoadRunner -- and they have some issues with connection and stability (as I am a former customer of RoadRunner itself, without AOL Broadband).
Now.. to answer the question without belittling the person asking --
1) make sure all your drivers are current -- especially display drivers as those seem to give the most problems with newer applications out there, like AOL 8.0 and above.2) Check the cable/dsl modem itself to ensure it isn't losing the connectivity, causing AOL or anything else to hang or not respond.
3) Make sure you have the most up-to-date build of AOL software. Make sure the build you have of AOL 8.0 is the most current and upgrade if it's not. AOL Keyword: Upgrade (AOL 9.0 Preview is available but I'd stick with AOL 8.0 Plus -- 9.0 is still in beta and is nice but not ready yet - I am also a beta tester for AOL and Microsoft as well as several other companies out there.)
4) If that doesn't work... try selecting HOME NETWORK as your connection type rather than BROADBAND because Broadband loads much richer and with streaming, etc. Shouldn't be a problem but if your computer can't handle all the activity, could cause problems. Fixed a few situations I have run across like this through this method.

Thanks for the info guys.
I will try all of the above.
I will post here if it works or not as the case maybe.
