Just backup your fav's to a floppy disk or move them to a different folder on the hard drive. They do not take up a lot of space and even if you could not access IE for some reason they reside on the HDD in there own folder.

kkkk,

I ask you where did this person state they wanted to remove IE 6.x? They only asked how to uninstall/reinstall IE 6.x which can be done.

Please read what someone is asking before you respond with an answer to a post.

Uninstall = Remove

I don't think so. A lot of programs can be uninstalled but a lot of information about the program is still retained in the registry and other places on the hard drive. Therefore the program has not been 100% removed.

Also, kkkk stated "you are not going to remove" which is not what the peson asked. They asked if you uninstall/reinstall which can be done. So Scott B by your thinking of uninstall = remove then you are stating that kkkk is correct in posting his reply.

You can uninstall/reinstall IE 6.x now can you 100% remove IE 6.x from a computer is a different story.

Kevin,
kkkk IS right, you can't remove(uninstall) I.E.6 from your PC you can only remove access to it, while it remain FULLY intact. Here is proof right from the site of Microsoft on the link posted by John W.

NOTE: Internet Explorer 6 is preinstalled by default in all versions of Windows XP. To provide computer manufacturers greater flexibility in configuring desktop versions of Windows XP, Microsoft has made it possible for OEMs, administrators, and users to remove user access to Internet Explorer while leaving the Internet Explorer code intact and fully functional to ensure the functionality of programs and operating system functions that rely on it. For example, Windows XP supports an "IEAccess=off" switch in the Unattend.txt file, and Internet Explorer has been added to the Add/Remove Windows Components section of the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

Kevin you are just mistaken we all have that happen once in a while.

Scott B,

If I go into the control panel and choose the icon that is stated (Add Or Remove Programs) and then choose the option on the left that is listed as (Add/Remove Windows Components) Internet Explorer is listed as an option I can uncheck and click the (next) button if I desire too.

Now what this removes I am not sure but I can see how someone would post the question that was asked due to the fact that the option to remove or uninstall Internet Explore is present. It is there in plain text.

I know IE can't be removed from the OS 100% by any easy means at this time but it can be removed or uninstalled to a degree via the XP program.

Kevin,
I'm going to prove this one more time to you and then I will move on as it is in plain text for you to read and if you don't accept what's in plain text, I can't help you anymore. When you go to the add/remove, windows components and you see that Internet Explorer, where you can uncheck it, highlight it and look down where it says Description:"Adds or Removes access to Internet Explorer from the Start Menu and Desktop". Now you know what it removes. I don't mean to be a smart a--, because I don't know that much about computers and I am wrong alot or don't know things alot of times. Surely I don't know as much as you. I was just tring to make the point that you got on kkkk when he said "remove" instead of "uninstall", when the two words mean the same to most people.

Get over it - so the wrong "terminology" was used. I am a system's engineer, and uninstall can mean the same thing as remove - and you are correct that just because you uninstall an app, does not mean that it is completely removed from your system, that's a given. Stop trying to sound like you are the epitomy of it terminology.

No you cannot uninstall/reinstall IE in XP. You can repair IE, and even reinstall it, but not at any point can your Uninstall (or shall we say REMOVE) IE from Windows XP. Honestly though, look at the alternative...

Anyone who bashes IE is just bashing it to make an "anti-establishment" type stance. I have downloaded the latest Navigator - and all I can say about it is, NO THANKS! Whether you want to admit it or not, IE is the best web browser for your windows system. If you don't want IE, install Red Hat.
