I'd like recommendations on AV/S packages that you use which does not impact system performance. As we all know Norton is a system hog. What have you used with good results.

Currently i run Kapersky and spysweeper and my system is crazy slow to non responding. prior to this i used spysweeper and Mcafee with no problems but i found out that i had a few throjans which got by mcafee and disabled spysweeper.

Thanks for your input

I am currently using NOD32 by ESET. Go here for a comparison http://www.eset.com/products/compar... It is available for download from their website or at retail CD from newegg. As a former Norton user I can say it is no where near the resource hog. Bluejay

One followup. If you do change from Norton, be sure to use their removal tool to get rid of as much of it as possible. Bluejay

My vote is also NOD32. Small footprint and catches everything.

I find it interesting that Kaspersky slows your system down. I bought it for my desktop and ended up throwing the cd in the garbage. Caused all kinds of erratic behavior.

These are the programs I recommend. They are among some of the "top" (FREE) programs many use;

Primary Protection

Avast Anti-Virus

SpyWare/MalWare Tools
======================
Cool_Web Shredder

SpyWareBlaster

BOClean (Comodo Anti-Malware product)

SpyBot Search & Destroy

Ad-Aware

(I have read that the latest Ad-Aware causes problems on some machines.)

It's a good day when you learn something
