Can anyone recommend a good cheap or free alternative to McAffee or Norton Viruscan?
I'm sick of the lousy customer service anyway from both parties & hate the idea of being held to ransom to pay yet more money for up-to-date virus signatures, above what I've already spent on the initial product.

IMHO, the best deal available is from http://ca.com/ It is a version 3.7 of Zone Alarm pro firewall and Etrust antivirus that is free for one year from Computer Associates. Updates are automatic, daily scans and a decent rating from the virus testing labs and magazines like PC World, PC Magazine, etc. Two days ago it was $49.95!

One thought. As with most thing that are free - you get what you pay for.
Problems with Norton's AV? I installed it - get auto updates - at end of one year I resubscribe for $4.50. And that's if I don't want to manually d/l sig updates.
No problems! No calls to NAV techs.

As part of the Microsoft "Protect Your PC" campaign, they are offering a free year of EZArmor Security Suite. Just came across it earlier today, thought it would come in handy to bookmark that page for when I come across people looking for a cheap/free alternative.
