ok, here is my case. I had a old hard drive FAT32 ctains XP (upgraded from ME) everythings works fine. due to lack of space with my old hard drive, so, I brought a new hard drive (faster, 7200 rpm) NTFS with a new XP installed(not upgrade). I just installed the softwares that my old hard drive has. every software is fine installed. but XP randomly freezes. it seems to me the time it freezes is for example, when unplug or plug in a keybroad, sometimes it happens when i close some programs(but i dont think its the problem with those programs, cause when i open some of those programs at the next boot up, they work and close fine. and sometime when i surf the internet it freezes also!!! It just randomly freezes!!! What happened?? Can anyone please give me some adivce!! I would really appreciated!!

usuallly video drivers that freeze it up. sometimes, bad memory/overheated cpu.
your telling us that your unplugging/plugging in keyboard while the computer is running??
thats a nono

I have expereiced the same problem after upgrading my compaq presario to windows xp. Through a long process I have determined it is my graphics controller(Intel 82810E) that is causing the problem. I have downloaded every upgrade available from compaq and Intel to resolve the problem.....no luck. I am trying now to find out what kind of new graphics card I can install without conflicts.
Please let me know if you have anything to add to this problem.
Thanks

but why everything was working fine with my old upgraded XP in my old hard drive. no softwares, no hardwares change in my new XP. why why why??? I saw many ppl have similar problem, did any one solved it??? see now as i surf the internet it is fine, but i never know when will it freezes !!! help!!

I have determinded that Intel(R) 82819E Chipset is not compatible with XP, even with their updated drivers. Get a new graphics card ( and that is another set of problems, diabeling the orginal card) or return to some other OS.
