We want to connect to a wireless network in our house and every time we start the laptop it does not do so. We go into 'wireless networks' and it tells us that windows cannot configure or find any networks. So we go into advanced settings and we check the box which says 'use windows to confiure wireless networks' and it works. Next time we start the PC we have the same problem again. How can we save this setting please?

We're suing Zone Alarm firewall and AVG virus scanner.

Plus can anyone tell us how to disable the password box which pops up when we start windows. Its not even a proper password, we just hit enter and it allows us in. In control panel > users there is no password set plus i cant see anything to allow us to stop it in the bios.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated as usual.

Thanks

You have two different issues. Go to Dell's Support Site and enter the Service Tag under Downloads and Drivers. Select your OS, and download the IntelProSet Wireless software. Install that and use it to manage your wireless connections.

As for the password, if you're talking about the Windows login, and all you do is press Enter, then there IS no password for that particular user. What you're referring to is autologin, which is NOT recommended, but is possible.

Download Tweakui, a free Microsoft utility with many useful options. It has an auto logon option.

Apologies for the delayed reply.

I can see that it states in my profile that I have a Dell computer. The computer I am currently having these problems with is an IBM thinkpad - apologies for this misunderstanding.

We did however try using the Intel Proset - wireless config manager (what with it being a general Windows app) but upon install it would give us an error message stating that the wireless driver was not installed. After installing every latest wireless driver from the IBM website we were still getting this message so gave up on this - so we are still stuck with the inconvenience of having to manually connect which almost feels like we've gone back to dial-up mode (Grrr).

We managed to solve the password problem with TweakUI so many thanks for that. No more prmpting upon Logon.

Any replies/suggestions following the first issue are still greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

I would check the Zone Alarm settings. I don't think many are still using ZA, I could be wrong. If you eventually do connect then the correct wireless drivers must be in place. May have something to do with security settings.
