How do I get rid of those annoying popups that show up on the bottom of my desktop? The ones that say "Updates are ready...", "Wireless Assistant Detected", etc.

They are commonly called balloons. If you have the XP Tweakui it will disable them (so they say). Look for Taskbar/Enable balloon tips.

is that windows xp a joke, it just brings up a pop-up when you go to click on it
