Hi everybody.

Since yesterday, after an improper shutdown (power failure) I'm getting an error message at Windows XP's login screen. It's something like: "Windows - Registry recovery. One or more of Windows registry files had to be recovered from an alternate registry copy. Recovery was successful" (My OS is in Spanish, so I don't know the exact English message). My system is working OK, so I don't know what is producing this message.I tried sfc /scannow with no success. Msconfig doesn't show anything different loading at startup. Also tried Bootvis, checking my system for viruses with updated AVG antivirus and checking for spyware with Ad-aware and Spybot. Still no results. Any input on this issue is highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Forgot to mention: Also tried THREE registry cleaners: RegCleaner, EasyCleaner and System Mechanic. They don't help either.

"Something Like" is not helping us to help you. Could you reproduce the error message again? Do you see any Error Message ID code?

Alternatively, open the Event Viewer and see if there are more details?

Hi Alvaro Martin Gomez, XpUser, hi everybody,

I don't personaly speak Spanish but I think that you could write the error message in Spanish and several people would help you!

>Recovery was successful
I understand that everything went fine (your issue was automatically fixed) and that you're looking for a big problem where there's none!

HTH

Have a good day,
Gérard from Paris, France

If it were me-- I would think that my user profile has become corrupt. Are you getting this message before you log on or after?

Thank you for your replies. The exact error message (in Spanish) is:

Windows - Recuperación del Registro

Uno de los archivos que contiene los datos del Registro del sistema se tuvo que recuperar mediante el uso de un registro o copia alternativos. La recuperación fué satisfactoria.

Aceptar

Literally, it would be like:

Windows - Registry Recovery

One of the files that contains System Registry data had to be recovered using an alternate registry or copy. Recovery was satisfactory.

OK

No error codes in this message. It appears before logging in. At the same time with Windows' logging screen.

Frenchie: You're right. My system is working OK, so there's no problem at all. It's just that this message annoys me lots and I want to get rid of it.

Thank you again!

Do you have just one user on the computer? Try another user maybe?

Thank you for your reply, Dumass. I have two users in my system. The thing is: No matter which one I select to log in, the message always appears. First, I click on OK to close the message box, then I log in.

Does it do this if you start up then after you get to windows shut down right away without running anythine. Then start up again and see if the error message is there. There's probably 2 or 3 possibilites 1. something that is running is corrupting your registry every time you run or 2. that message is stuck in start up somewhere or 3. some program (windows program or 3rd party) is causing that error falsely and the error doesn't pertain to what it says. It's to bad Windows can't say "hey buddy program xxxxx is being naughty and causing a problem.
You might also try a memory (ram) tester software, look at snapfiles.com or google it for free ones.

Hi.

I tried booting in safe mode and the message still appears, so I think it isn't caused by third-party software. I also downloaded MemTest from Snapfiles.com and, after running all tests, the "errors" column shows "0". The message is still there. Haven't tried "Last Good Known Configuration" yet.

Thank you.
