Is there any way to annotate files in Windows Explorer? The only way I can input more info to rename the file with long explanatory names making the use of them very cumbersome. Also some older programs I use happily handle only eight character filenames. In "details" one can right click on the header and invoke a number of columns but those are prearranged, no user input is possible. Any ideas?

Curiosity: if it is indicated by the original poster that the problem is solved, is the thread removed from the list?

Not sure as to your problem, but in regards to your curiosity...no. The thread is not removed, because other people may have the same problem you have.
