I reinstalled xp and while I was at it I partioned a drive that never got partioned. Now I have c and d drive that both have windows files. Now my computer is saying I am running very low on disk space on drive d ( the new one ). Is it be cause it installed windows on that drive while the c drive contains a windows file too. If so how do I get rid of the windows file in the d drive because I'm sure I'm not supposed to have windows in both??? I hope this wasn't confusing. Thanks Christine

Fdisk and Format the D drive from XP. Do not use the System command when formatting.

I'm not sure if I know how to go about that. I tried to fdisk in the safemode comand prompt but couldn't get it.

Christine, I have to ask a couple of questions to understand your problem. What is the total size of your harddrive? How were you able to get any files on the "D" drive without a successful partition and format. How did you determine there were files on the "D" drive? Are you are willing to do a clean install? if you are, that would be the best route to take. You can use the XP install CD to generate two partitions "C" & "D", format both using either fat32 or NTFS and subsequently install XP on the "C" drive.
Post back for any help you need.
