I was wondering is a AMD Duron(tm) processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz processor could operate a game requiring a Pentium® III 1.0GHz (1000MHz) or Athlon™ 1.0GHz (1000MHz) processor or higher.
Id appreciate some input on this matter. Ive spend many hours/days trying to figure this out. ")

I hope so if so excellent although I still need to make it happen. I believe I need a new game card NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 is what I have and Rome total war needs a All Nvidia® GeForce® 3 and higher. in regards to your origional answer How is it one processor can comingle the necesseties of another type processor meaning duron will work on a athlon/pentium requirement.
I appreciate your input to my question, Thanks

What I'm sure they mean when they say a Pentium® III 1.0GHz (1000MHz) or Athlon™ 1.0GHz (1000MHz) processor or higher is that, or the equivalent to them. A Duron 1.8 ghz is more than equivalent to a Pentium 1 ghz. Heck, I bet you could even run it on a Celeron.

I think they are talking about the speed of the processor not the type because most Durons are built on the same base or core as an Athlon XP and they are a lot more of the same type of processor than the Athlon is the same type as the Pentium. The Athlon sends more data per clock cycle(hz) than the Pentium that is why they say Athlon XP 2200+ or Athlon XP 2400+. That does not mean it is 2400 mhz, a 2400+ actually runs at 2000 mhz but since it sends more data per hz it is equivalent to the Pentium 2400 mhz processor.

thanks domass your knowledge is appreciated.
