I have an Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz CPU but Windows XP says that it is a 1.06GHz Athlon. I'm using an MSI K7-Master motherboard. Why doesn't it display as 1.4GHz?

Because Windows XP is a hunk of junk that is almost as buggy as Windows 98 first edition and it shouldn't have been released until it was actually in a working condition without so many damned problems.

Is this a new board and setup?
I had same prob with the Abit kG7-raid and an AMD XP 1600 (1.4). My board saw it as a 1.04. Even after the update to the bios which actually has the XP 1600 at 133 option in it. I still had to tell it to do the multiplier at 10.5 for it to read right. After that XP saw it ok.

I had the same problem with this under windows me, if your motherboard has jumpers near the memory slots for front side bus you have to switch to 133 mhz bus jumper setting and that will enable you to run your processor at 266 fsb instead of 200 fsb and this will make the processor run at 1.4 ghz.
