Does anybody know of an alternative to ipconfig that can be used from a dos boot disk, I need to know the MAC address prior to any software being installed.

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a try.
Copy the file "getmac.exe" from the C:\Windows\System32 folder to your DOS boot disk.
Boot from the floppy then from the prompt type: getmac.exe and press enter.

Hope this helps.

Just thought I'd add, if you don't find getmac in the system32 folder you can get it in the i386 folder on the Windows XP CD.
