I have an Altec Lansing ADA890 Dolby digital and Pro Logic surround sound and stereo reproduction speaker set. It is 5 years old but is still sounds good. It has the woofer with 4 small speakers. One of those small speakers has the controls built into it with the power off/on, mode for different sounds, base/treble, and the volume.

You need to go where someone sells wires for computers and get some computer speaker wires. On my simple setup I use one thin speaker wire that is color coded lime tips on each end, which matches the color coded outlet on the woofer (Analog-Front) and it connect to the back of the computer in the color coded lime socket. It is more than likely a typical computer speaker wire.

On my setup, you also need 2 heavy duty wires for the speakers. On those wires it reads; AWM 2464 (VW-1 80*C, I think this is the degrease) E154770 AWG20 AWG28 Altec Lansing 300V. The one plugs into the woofer in the orange (right main) and the other wire will plug into the brown (left main) on the woofer. These both go to your small speakers.

Just for more information, these wires are connected directly into the speakers and do no detach. The orange color coded wire (right main)goes into the speaker that has the power controls. I don't know if that is of any importance though.

But then, again maybe yours is not like mine. It could be newer or older model than mine and that could make a big difference on how the wire inputs are made and could be connected differently than mine.

Anyway I just wanted to try to help you out. Maybe you can do a google search to find out some things also.

I'm not ignorant, I just need more learning!

Hi
i have same Altec Lansing ADA890, the speaker set up is THX certified so check out what speakers it should have, lansings are pretty much the dogs dood-dars, the wiring is crucial to get any of the outputs to work properly as Tammy's detail states very nicely btw,
most AL units the base sub drives the system but the controller is built into the front speaker so useless with out it.

plenty of 2nds around in the UK.
