Install the program in an admin protected folder.

Yes, Norton works well with users both via XP and through Norton. You can choose how you wish an XP user to have settings in Norton like a child or teen user.

As a rule you always want to use the lowest account for what the task requires. Always use a limited account on the internet.

Darn, I can't answer either one.

If no one answers, how about re-posting the last message again on a new post?

My guess would be some portion of the install is on protected admin folders?? wild guess or norton is borked and you need symantec tech support. By the way you should have it free.

I use live update while in a limited user. Can't say if it does actually download files and installs or even if it only downloads or not at all. I guess you could do some tests but it would be best to know you are being protected at all times. Symantec installed help may answer this too if web site or tech support don't help.

Delmo, Just a quick comment about Norton. I have NAV2004 on one of my machines, and just removed adm priv from one user acct. When I tried to do a Live update in this account, it wouldn't let me. Said I was not authorized to do this. I suppose this is due to the limitations of this account to download progs, which update is. Not sure about auto update, same thing I would imagine. Bluejay

Thanks Bluejay,

Ill just have to try some testing, its a pity theres not a piece of software out there that can make programs run as specific credentials all the time.

Cheers anyway for your input
