Comment:

After I enter my password windows media player opens and says things like "rundll" and other .exe programs cannot play. There is often an odd sound through the speakers, and whenever I try and open any program it opens with windows media player and subsequently does not work. I cannot use system restore because that also opens with media player. Can anyone please help?
I use windows xp home edition.

David, If you can open your Antivirus Program run a full virus scan. If you don't have a Antivirus Program and can get on the Internet go to the link below and run the Free Housecall online Virus Scan.

David, If you can't open any .exe files go to the link below and under "Windows XP from A to Z" and under the letter "E" scroll down to this.

"EXE File Association Fix for Windows XP" and follow the instructions to download the file and run it.

The above is assuming that you can get on the Internet.
