All my icons changed to LNK

CPU/Ram: pentium 4 512 mb

I ran Ad-Watch and it loaded up as usual and kept displaying "Registry modification detected" with the choice of Allow or Block so i chose block then after i restarted my computer all my icons changed to LNK. can anyone help me fix this please.

Viet, Go to the link below and scroll down to line 12 left column and download the "EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP" .reg file. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

Increase Icon Cache #121

Scroll down to the number 121 and try applying that patch,,, No quarantee that it'll work,,, but,,, for my machine so far, in trying some things it has worked,,

MSI 845e mb 768 mb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!

Viet, Go to the link below and download the "EXE File Association Fix" which is a zip file. Download the ZIP and open it. Extract the REG file to your hard disk and double click it. Answer yes to the import prompt.

I experienced the same result part way through Norton 2006 antivirus installation. Everything went to .lnk extension, nothing will open including my "C", explorer, email, control panel, etc, etc. I initially thought it was a hard drive malfunction, but I now see it is fixable.
I can do following:
Start>Run>, should I brouse for xp_exe_fix.reg?
