All files are .lnk

March 14, 2011 at 19:46:25
Specs: Windows XP
I uninstalled RealPlayer and restarted my computer...

...and everything turned into a .lnk file!

To fix it I download the EXE File Association Fix and LNK File Association Fix. But both files are .reg and the computer doesn't know how to run it.
Therefore, I downloaded the REG File Association Fix which is also a .reg file so I can't open that either.

I can't run command prompt so I can't get open regedit or regedt32 because they are both .exe files.
Also I tried Folder Option>File Types, there is no ".reg" extension and there is no "merge" option.

WHAT DO I DO???!!! Please help.

Not sure if the information I've found is useful. You check it out.
They have different file fixes. I've copy and paste some information
but you still need to go their.
copy and paste below.
Windows® XP File Association Fixes
Copyright 2003 - Doug Knox

The files listed here are all ZIP files, which contain a REG (Registry) file. Download the ZIP and open it. Extract the REG file to your hard disk and double click it. Answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad. Each of the REG files contains the default settings for the file extension indicated. For the ZIP file fix, the download is a REG file, since ZIP's aren't working anyway!

NOTE: If your EXE file associations are corrupted, it can be difficult to open REGEDIT, or to even import REG files. To work around this, press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.EXE and press Enter.
Thanks to Nigel Andrews for this tip.
