Zero RAM - that sounds odd, it won't happen unless the computer is taken apart.
I will assume you mean hard disk space.

Does the computer still boot up to Windows? If so you could search for some of the missing picture files in case they have got moved to somewhere else. You could also try the freebie "Recuva" if you can get it to install.

If you feel up to it you could knock up a Linux CD (such as Puppy Linux) on another computer. This runs from just the RAM and the CD and doesn't affect your Windows installation. That way you could peer into the hard disk to see what folders and files are still around. If you find your pictures etc you can use Linux to copy them onto a flash drive.
If this is of interest I can provide further detail.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Memory & hard drive capacity are 2 completely different things. If your memory was zero, the system wouldn't even boot up. You need to explain more clearly.

Knowing how he did the drive cleanup would help too.

Once you get this all sorted out, I would highly suggest you look into backing up your precious data. As you have experienced first hand, problems do happen with drives and you can loose everything. Look into getting an external drive or online storage such as Carbonite or Livedrive to backup your data.
