alg.exe rebooting my computer

Application Layer Gateway Service (ALG):
Provides support for 3rd party protocol plug-ins for Internet Connection Sharing and the Internet Connection Firewall.
This is a normal XP service. If you have XP's firewall enabled, then this runs by default. You can check out all your services and see what they do by going to:
Start Run Type 'services.msc' and click ok
Not sure what could be shutting down your system though. The ALG service is not set by default to restart on error.
