I'm running windows XP home edition. When I try to install the modem it loads the inital batch of software but wont load the final drivers for the Speedtouch Networking Support. The modem itself is working fine on a mac, as is the adsl line. I did have this software installed a few weeks ago and then deleted some of the files. Now it wont reload.
I have reinstalled XP as well as the latest updates and have also made sure my Alcatel drivers are compatible and reinstalled them.
Have i done something terrible to the Windows set up by removing these files manually in the first place? And if so how can I force it to reboot in DOS mode so i can totally wipe the hard drive (no great tragedy in this instance to do that) - and then do a totally clean reintall of XP? - ie clean in so much as all previous data will have been erased.
many thanks for your help with this...and apologies for the newbie nature of the post.

yes, but their technical support suggest reinstalling XP - have done it several times but to no avail

A lot of people are having trouble with this modem. Posts in here suggest going back almost a year. However to get to your problem, boot up using a Win98 or ME boot disk and you will get to the a: prompt. Then type format c: and off you go

Had no problems installing my USB Alcatel frog, but all of the instructions make it clear that you need to install the drivers from the CD first before you plug the modem in (it should then be recognised by XP).
Can you go into control/panel/system/device manager and update the driver from the CD without the modem connected? Then reboot and plug it in.
Also, to totally wipe and reinstall just reboot from the XP cd and when it comes to choosing the partition to install to press D to delete your current one and then create a new one in its place. Then carry on with install.
Good Luck

no - same problem - as soon as the modem is connected (after driver install and reboot) it searches the cd for the networking support but cant ever find it. In the device manager the modem is listed under OTHER DEVICES with a yellow question mark next to it. And when i modem properties the driver it is shown as unknown. The USB support driver is installed fine - it is the modem itself that wont load.
If you have managed to install the usbmodem could you tell me the file name of the driver and its path??

there is a support page off the fastaccess site, download the xp drivers for the frog.
unplug dsl, load drivers, plug up dsl, reboot

I had a problem with XP not recognising my Modem too, I installed the 1.6 Beta drivers and everything runs fine now!.
You can get them from www.stuartjones.tk click on files and then on internet and follow the download instructions from there.Hope this is of some use!
