Running XP Pro with 512 Meg Ram, Athlon1000.
ADSL Broadband. Alcatel Speed Touch USB ADSL modem. ince installing the modem and on continued connection to the net, the system reboots and message appears saying the system has recovered from a serious error. Temporary internet files and history files appear to be wiped when this happens. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks. Only thing I can think of doing is a complete Windows reinstall. OS is XP Pro. This seems to happen principally when using WinMx or e-donkey, and attempting to run Media Player at the same time

Thanks for that. Yes I've got the updated XP drivers and the latest Windows updates. No help to me at all unfortunately.

I also installed windows xp pro with an alcatel speed touch USB modem. I had the problem that music playing and browsing on the internet was terrible. It had to do with the datastream of the USB modem through the PCI bus.
I solved the problem by bying a PCI USB card. Now my modem is plugged in this card and all problems have gone. Doesn't cost much, only 12 Euros.
Maybe this helps.

I had a similar problem. For me, I had to go to alcatel and get the latest beta drivers. They had a bug in their earlier drivers that caused XP to crash when the data out stream was maxed out. Worth a try.

Thanks for that eas98. After a little trouble I located the drivers and have now installed them. Fingers crossed. The info is appreciated
