turn on AIM, now when the buddy list in opened, click on File->Edit Options->Edit Preferences
Find the Sign On/Off section and click the Connection button:

Click the Auto configure button and hit OK to let it search for an OPEN "PORT"
Once it finds an open "port" you will be able to connect, and for our sake, just poke around in AIM, it's all right there in front of you.

Hey, i have already exhausted all my resources - that is why i am coming to the pro's!

i have tried that- and reseting and auto-config'ing again and again doesn't fix it. Also, the program does not open up....only the connecting window.

This can happen if you internet connection is maxed out by uploading and downloading a bunch of files. If you are up/downloading a bunch of stuff try pausing the tranfers and see if you can log on.
