Hello,

I just wanted to know how one networks a a) Windows XP Proffesional Service Pack 2 2.6 GHZ P4 256 MB SD RAM with a b) Windows 98 Second Edition Celeron 330 MHZ 32 MB SD RAM so that I can play Age of Empires 2. I have the right cable for a direct LAN connection. I have connected them and there is feedback from network. (On the Win. XP PC it sais: " Local Area Network is now connected at a 100 MB/s.) I have given both a IP adress: PC a = 192.168.10.1 and PC b = 192.168.10.2 I have been in Age of Empires 2 and went to multiplayer. I clicked on LAN TCP/IP and created a game with one of the PC'sbut the other one just does not want to detect the game... I have disabled all firewalls and still nothing... Is there a way to network them to play games and share files? Could you please, if this is possible give a detailed step by step guide how to do so?

Thanks a lot!

Andreas

if u got the 'feedback' it means your NIC's and cable are ok.

set up a home network, using the network connection wizard on the xp machine with the option 'this computer connects direct to the internet, othe computers on the network will connect thru this computer ...', at the end of this procedure it gives you the option to create a network setup floppy. run this floppy on your win98 pc. this should do the trick.

by default now the xp computers ip address is 192.168.0.1, the win98 computer will get it's ip address from your win xp pc after the restart.

if you need to know the ip address to configure the multiplayer settings in AoE, just run winipcfg from the start > run command on your win98 pc.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

I am trying to play age of empires on a network with my friends, but i was wondering do I need a seperate copies of the game for each computer? If I don't need a seperate copy can i run aoe from one computer so that all of them can use it? All of the computers that I want to use are xp. I have a wireless network/ and file sharing. If i put aoe on file sharing, the other computer's say "you have to ask your administrator for permission". What do I do? Thanx
