I upgraded from ME to XP pro on one of my computers in my home netowork. And after i upgraded that pc i cant get connected on the internet or network. I can connect to both when i am in safe mode. I am using a lynksys router and modem. I have tried using the info in my ip config to manually configure my internet protocol settings when i was in safe mode and it still doesnt work. It just resets itself back to the automatic private adress 196.xxx.xxx.xx

If you're connected to a home network, you're supposed to have an IP in that range, 192.168.xxx.xxx. First, on the "new" XP machine, go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /release and press enter. Then type ipconfig /renew and press enter. You should then have a dynamic IP assigned by your router. Then to go to My Network Places and select Set Up a Home or Small Office Network and follow the directions.
