Originally had Win 2000 Professional. Formatted 40G HDD, and installed XP Home Edition. No probs until final system restart when no IDE devices were detected. Entered BIOS for AUTO detection.....nothing??
Checked cabling, all appears OK. Not altered jumper settings.....HELP

You might try a boot disk and run Fdisk to check the partitions, IF the hard drive does not even show up in the initial boot up screen that shows the memory followed by the devices in DOS. Is that where you notice that the drive is not detected?
