Ok this is what happened, I bought a new motherboard, the Asus P4P800 Deluxe along with a P4 2.8 ghz CPU and 512 mb of PC3200 ram. My plan was to take out my 2 harddrives from my old computer (compaq 1.4 athlon), my 2 harddrives, and my videocard and mount it on the new motherboard. However, after connecting everything and starting up, windows does not boot up. I checked the bios, and everything seems fine in the bios. But windows doesn't boot, it gives some inconvenience message and gives the option to run it normally, or in 3 different safemodes, none of which boots up. I'm thinking it probably has to do with the new hardware, so would I have to reinstall windows XP? Or is there a way I can boot windows without reinstalling, or at least a way to reinstall without losing everything on my harddrive? Any help would be appreciated.

Try the repair option on the install CD. If the repair succeeds your programs and data will be intact. You might have to reinstall the latest service pack.

The way you need to do it is (I hate to say), put the old board back in and boot.
Then the last thing before you shut down, remove everything from device manager.
Remove the display driver last so you can see what you are doing.
Then hit the windows key/u/u, to shut down the system.

When you say to put the old board back in and remove everything from the device manager. Would it be possible for me just to put my master harddrive back on the old board and then remove everything from device manager. I ask this because I basically stripped everything except for the cpu and ram from my old board and put it on my new board. Would I have to put all my harddrives, cd rom drives, and pci cards back in order to remove everything from the device manager?
