Comment:

Hi, has anyone had this?
After SP2 install, the wuauclt.exe process (Automatic Updates) takes up 100% CPU-time, the system slows down to an unusable speed and if I kill the process it just
starts up again.
I can disable it with msconfig (services), but then the WindowsUpdate site doesn't work.
If I leave it 'running' and use windowsupdate (which takes an hour or something because of the high cpu load), the windowsupdate applet thingy crashes with an unknown
error. So something is very wrong here...
It's not a virus or ad/spy-ware..
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Alex

PS. System:
AMD Athlon64 3200+
MSI K8T neo
1GB RAM (TwinMOS)
vga: ATi RADEON 9800

hi , i have similar problem and sp2 isnt installed ,
i noticed i now have wuauclt and mssymgr
running are these a virus or microsoft service's? theres not much about them on google.
And boot up time has gone to 40 secs , & internet connection i have to wait a few mins before i can browse all since updating last week.
i switched off autoupdate so that shouldnt be affecting my system on boot up?

any ideas as above please?

If your PC had alot of spyware before SP2 was installed or wasn't working up to par, I would suggest uninstalling SP2, then get rid of the problems and then re-install SP2, that should work for you.

I know you said you don't have spy and adware, but what I mentioned just worked for a friend of mine. Depending on which spware removal you used. HTH

If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL! Glad to have a chance to help you.

Hey, I removed SP2 and some extra updates, but I still have the problem!
Something's screwed up... I'll try throwing a fresh windows over this install, but anyone got any other ideas?
Thanks,
Alex
