After upgrading my RAM from 512 mb to 2gb my pc started to reboot.
First i have tried 2*1GB ram from A-Data...i have installed those and the pc kept rebooting. After ive bought 2*1GB from the same manufacturer as my old 512mb ram(2*256) were...same story...my pc kept rebooting eaven after i have reinstalled the winxp

the motherboard is an Epox KT 600 with 2 ram sockets and the manufacturer says that it can support up to 2 gb ram.

I never had any rebooting problems with my old ram ifor around 3 years, the problem occured only after ive upgraded to 2gb(tryed 2 different types of ram(pc3200 400mhz) and the problem persisted.

Scanned my hdd with 3 different AV and no virus was detected.

First of all your problem doesn't appear to be OS related so it probably should have been posted in the Hardware forum.

Total RAM capacity is not the only criteria when upgrading RAM. Did you check to see if the RAM you bought was compatible with your MBoard? RAM density as well as other factors all come into play.

Go to Crucial.com and use their memory configurator to see what kind and size RAM is fully compatible with your system. Pay attention to ALL the specs on the recommended memory, not just the capacity. Also, you board may require ECC RAM if all slots are filled.

Excellent advice from Othehill.

Have you tried each stick alone?

Memory test
http://memtest86.com/
There is a version to create a bootable floppy diskette and/or an ISO for creating a CD.

hmmm...i have had the both slots filled since i bought the pc...now, after 3 years ive upgraded to 2 gb(my latest 2 gb rams are the same type of ram as my original ones--twin moss, 400mhz, pc3200)...well, the pc seems to have problems with the 2*1gb, problems that it never had with the 2*256mb...
as ive seen on other posts the memtest must be run for some time...the problem in this case is that the pc reboots from 15 to 15 min

i went to crucial.com and this is what i got:
http://i25.tinypic.com/2qa4e8o.png
(dunno why there appears to have 3 slots for rams, cuz on my mb there are only 2)

well...should i try to use only 1 dimm...but still, if that works...why cant i use 2?

edit:

i got often an error at 0xc0000005.google it and found out that its caused by faulty ram or bad drivers.
well, many of my programs give errors and after close...errors like " the x.exe has encounted a problem and has to be closed"
may that be the cause of the problem?faulty drivers?

You were supposed to look up what the proper RAM for your computer is, not what is currently installed. Banks are not the same as slots.

Read your MBoard manual to understand what RAM can work. What you are looking for is something like 1GB 16x64. Or 1GB 8x128. RAM chips are much higher density than when your MBoard was made. Pull out one of the sticks you installed and read the info on one of the rectangular black chips. Then count how many of those chips are on the stick, total. Post back with the info.

well, each dimm has 16x64, also the slots are clean(no dust there), the MB accepts 2048mb ram, i used the ram with the same specifications as my old one, only that the new one is 2*1gb.
tried also using only 1 dimm and the pc rebooted, before that the open applications gaved me the error at 0xc000005 (faulty ram or bad drivers--in my case is the ram)

trying 2 different manufacturers i dont know what to think and i dont think that the ram i have installed now is broken...im really curious whats the problem :/
