Getting 'Unable to colntinue because of hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable.' I've uninstalled/reinstalled the program, as well as restored my computer to a time several days ago. None of these have solved the problem. Can anyone help?

Sounds like a hardware or system error versus a software error.

Check the Event log in Computer Management to see if you can locate the specific error and related hardware or system property involved.

For most, that error is due to too many fonts installed to the C:\WINDOWS\Fonts folder. If you have installed additional fonts to that folder, try creating a new folder and move some of the fonts over.

Thanks, I thought about the font thing, so they'd already been moved to another folder last week. Now, I'm taking them off the computer onto disk, and it still hasn't helped.

Okay, I went to the event log, and got this:

Faulting application photoshop.exe, Version 7.0.0.0, faulting module photoshop.exe, Version 7.0.0.0, fault address 0x008013b7.

Any advice?

The message suggests a problem with the memory. It is either a bad stick of RAM on your machine or a problem with the way that your PhotoShop is configured to use the RAM.

I recommend a read at this Adobe Photoshop 'Memory' Article.

I am at least finally getting a 'cannot not initialize becasue there is not enough ram'. Where do i change the % of Ram used by PS if i can't get into it? Can I also set the scratch disk w/o getting into PS? I saw on the net about the ctrl + alt + shift, but that doesn't work for me to get me into the program. Please help!

I don't have PhotoShop but how much RAM do you have available just after powering up the PC?

Right click on a bare spot of the Taskbar and select Task Manager, go to the Performance tab and see what the "Commit charge" Total, Limit and Peak are showing.

You state you have 512 mb RAM. Is that a single stick of 512 or two at 256 each?

Could not initialize Photoshop because there is not enough memory (RAM) - SOLVED

I have narrowed that message down to this little piggie..

C:\Documents and Settings\<your admin profile>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings\Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Prefs.psp

delete, or rename that file to something else, then try starting photoshop again.

Hope that helps someone
