I've been having a problem lately in that the Add/|Remove tab takes up to 15 minutes to open. Then I discovered that a total of 119 Microsoft security updates and hotfixes are all sitting there. Now I've never seen that before. Is that right? Can I delete them?

Secondly I have jotted down the following items in there as well and wonder if someone could advise me which to delete and which not.
1. Web application
2. Via Platform Device Manager
3. Internet Service
4. Microsoft Compression client pack 1.0 XP
5. Microsoft user-mode driver framework feature pack 1.0
6. Nero Digital
7. the 119 Windows software updates and hotfixes.

I have also noticed that my computer is markedly slower in function. Help will be highly appreciated.

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

There's nothing there that needs to be uninstalled.

When's the last time you scanned for viruses & spyware? Do you use CCleaner to clear out accumulated garbage files? Have you ever used MSCONFIG to disable useless apps from loading at startup?

At the top of Add\Remove is a little Box called 'Show Updates

Take the Check out of that Box and then they won't appear in the main Add\Remove

Don't Uninstall any of the Updates

Removing Windows software updates in the wrong order may cause the operating system to stop
functioning

Best to do is ---
You can do Start, then RUN, then type
msconfig
Then uncheck items in the Startup tab.

To find out what each Startup(or Process) item
does or means, and any recommendation as to if you should close the process:

Task List Programs
OR

The Process Library
--------------------------
ALSO
Do you check for, and remove, Spyware ??
Spyware includes ----
Adware, Dialers, Browser Hijackers, Trojans, Cookies,
Key Loggers, Trackware, and other Malware while browsing the internet.

Most Virus and Spyware scans are likely to work better in Windows Safe-Mode.

Thanx guys. You have been very helpfull. Yes the culprit was that little check-mark in that little box!! Incidentally yes I did have a problem very recently with virus/spyware but that has (hopefully) been sorted out. I did uncheck items in MSCONFIG that I thought were unnecessary. BTW what is the Nero Digital for. I do have the Nero Suite installed.

When was the last time you did something for the first time?
