Comment:

I just bought a new computer and want to take the "second" 60GB hard drive from my old win98 machine and put it in the new winxp machine for data storage. The drive does not have an OS on it. It is strictly for data and is partitioned into two 30GB partitions. Can I just plop it in as slave and will win xp detect it and run it properly? I know win xp has a different file system than win 98 so I wasn't sure. I do not want to lose the data that is already on the drive, I want to be able to use it on the new computer. Thanks, Me

Hi,
Yup...just "plop" it in.
Just check your jumper settings first but if its allredy set as a slave in your old machine they should be fine. You may also have to go into the bios and detect it their first though, Also once youve booted up and all is detected ect, ect, it would be advisable to convert the file system to NTFS.This can be done without data loss but make sure you back up first(just in case).
Good luck.
