I have two hard drives. The one hard drive that is connected to my computer has 98 and XP dual boot and is working fine. The other hard drive has 98 with all my old files and programs. I am wanting to connect both hard drives so I can access my old files. I was wondering if connecting my old hard drive would corrupt anything in the boot.ini file or mess up anything on the two operating systems that I am currently using. I dont need or want to use the win98 on the old hard drive, I just want to have access to my files and programs and keep the current boot menu uncorupted. Thanks for any help.

You should not have any problems. I do this all the time with no issues.

Scott,

Only the ini's from your bootup HD get looked at so as long as you jumper it to slave on the primary cable or hook it to the secondary cable you'll never have a problem. If you don't use that drive for anything and plan to leave it in your computer as an extra drive here's what i usually do. Make a folder on your new drive and call it "Old-harddrive" and then copy everything from the old harddrive over to that folder. Now you can reformat the old drive and have maximum free space for backups. now pick through that folder and grab everything you want and then a week/month later whenyou're SURE you've grabbed everything you want you can blow that folder off and regain the space on your primary drive. Just a suggestion.

ciao,
wired

Thanks for the replys. So as long as I connect the old hard drive as a slave it will only be considered a storage drive and not a bootable drive?
