I have read a few posts on adding another hard drive, but I am still confused on how to do so.I have done this in win98 and discovered that I had to load win98 on the second hdd to use it.Do I have to do the same with winXP?I don't want two OS's like most people are asking about, just winxp and two hard drives.

If you are going to use them in a master/slave configuration just set the jumper on your existing drive to Master and the new drive to Slave. If you want to set them up on 2 different IDE controllers then set the new drive up as master on the secondary controller and your CDROM as slave. Format the new hard drive and you are ready to go.
