thedock, As Sabertooth stated get rid of that garbage thru Add/Remove Programs. If that dowsn't work follow the Removal instructions at the link below. It's hard to believe but "PROCEDURE 4 (Download Uninstall from New.net):" actually works when all others fail.

Uninstalling NewDotNet

Hi thedock, Sabertooth, Tufenuf, hello everyone,

Tufenuf,

Do you know if there is still an issue with uninstalling new.net and corrupting the winsock32 settings?

If so, thedock may want to first download a copy of winxp winsockfix.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Also after you uninstall it go to search and enter the name of the file. Add and Remove does not delete everything. Whenever I uninstall a program afterwords I go to search and enter the name and always find at least 4 files that are not removed. Usually a LOT more.

After this ordeal is over, you should install the anti-scumware utilities below.

0. Windows defender/M$ Anti-spyware beta.
1. Lavasoft's Ad-Aware
2. SpywareBlaster
3. Spybot S&D

Make sure you also update their definition files to the latest and periodically scan your system.

Mesich, Usually if you uninstall NewDotNet from the Add/Remove Programs or by using the uninstaller from the NewDot link I posted the Winsock problem doesn't usually happen. You indeed made a good point of first downloading a copy of Winsock XP Fix first just in case uninstalling the NewDotNet messes up your ability to access the Internet.

Hi Tufenuf,

Thanks for the info.

I was giving it a bit of thought, prior to you last post, and if remember correctly the damage winsock32 settings are caused by manually removing it or third party software removing it.
