Comment:

I was installing software last night and decided to uninstall it.

When I went to Add and Remove programs, the Currently Installed Programs box won’t populate with currently installed programs.

How can I get this list to populate again?

Don't know how to populate it, don't use it myself.

CCleaner has an uninstaller.

Open CC & click on Tools.

One advantage of this cleaner is, when Issues is clicked & the boxes ticked, it will tell you before you fix ( doing one file at a time ) why the file is there.
CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) is a freeware system optimisation tool. That removes unused and temporary files from your system - allowing it to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space. The best part is that it's fast! (normally taking less that a second to run) and Free.:) Windows 95/98/NT4/ME/2000/XP/2003

Add/Remove fix

The above fix is very lengthy. I think you may find that simply using START - Run and typing sfc /scannow would be an eaiser fix. That's a space between the c and /.

You will need the xp cd to run scannow.

Had the exact same problem recently. Turns out the HD was failing. You might try running a diagnostic on the HD, just to be sure.

Thanks!

I uninstalled Nikon Picture Project and probably corrupted the registry.

And this HDD does have bad blocks but the clone of this drive does not and I get the same behavior.

I have a Ghost Image of the C: partition from 12/30/06. I think I'll try that.
