I currently have Ad-aware 6 installed on my computer. I keep hearing about a program called Spybot! Has anyone experience with both programs? Is it worth downloading Spybot or is Ad-aware good enough? Is Spybot good enough on it's own? Is it wise to have both programs or will this cause conflicts? Your comments would be appreciated! Thanks!

I use Spybot S&D, Adaware 6, Hijackthis all together and find that all 3 are complementary to each other

hey, you can never be too safe :) shouldnt be any conflict, just dont run them at the same time, lol. Personally, I use Spybot S&D, works great for me (not sure if adaware has the immunize feature, but its VERY useful). If your paranoid though, run SpyBot, and anything that it missed, AdAware should pick up...

I have found that AdAware will recognise things Spybot won't and vice versa so possessing both has to be beneficial.

In addition to the above , I use Spyware Blaster & Bazooka .

====================================

Make sure you use the SpyBot/SpywareBlaster/Ad-aware/Bazooka/ > Online > Update button regularly .

Once you have the program installed , open SpyBot and select the "Immunize" icon on the left & Click on Immunize , in the new page .
Permanently running bad download blocker for Internet Explorer .
Select > Block all bad pages silently & click Install .
Then check the box "lock hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers".

Select your download site .
Open Spybot Search and Destroy. After clicking the button that says "Search for Updates" you will see 5 items near the top of the window, "Search for Updates", "Download Updates", UniDo(Europe), "Show Log" and "Help". Next to UniDo(Europe) you will see a "down" arrow. Click the "down" arrow and you will see download site choices (3 in Europe, 1 in USA and 1 in Australia).

Bazooka is freeware and Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP compatible.

Click on the files found & you will be taken to a site that will show you how to remove , either with a program or manually .

It reports on all drives & partitions , so remember to check all these , when doing manual remove .

Nothing - but nothing - is better than your own vigilance. Email attachments, visits to dubious sites etc will ALL open you to attack. These programs give you peace of mind and will, hopefully, save you from disaster.

Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-aware, Spywareblaster, CWShredder remain free to the user and are among the most highly regarded defences BUT cannot shield you from spy/ad/malware attack at ALL times. Couple them with a decent anti virus program and you will have done what you can.

Beware,

SpyBot does get rid of spyware more efficiently but.....

More than once, i found out that Spybot went wayyyyyy deeper in it's research, and it removed part of the system that were vital.

But fortunately, it also provide a way to reverse back to it's previous state.

Don't use system restore if your system become unstable, or other things happens, like the internet stopped working, use the undo process provided by Spybot.

Only my two cents. :-)

Zenno.
